We put Christ first. (Luke 14:26-27, Matthew 5:33)
We are part of the Global Methodist Church.
Also, our reach is within our community but our ministry is worldwide.
John Wesley wrote in his journal June 11, 1739, “I look upon all the world as my parish; thus far I mean, that, in whatever part of it I am, I judge it meet, right, and my bounden duty to declare unto all that are willing to hear, the glad tidings of salvation…”
We work to pattern our lives and ministry with the heart of Methodism in mind by being intentional with our study of Scripture, practice of prayer, our worship together and our ministry of sharing the Gospel.
When John and Charles Wesley were attending Oxford in England they were part of a holy club. They met regularly for Bible study and prayer. Other students ridiculed them by calling them “those Methodists.”
We, the people, are the church.
In response to ancient Mysticks who taught that living a solitary life apart from others is a virtue, John Wesley wrote in the preface to his 1739 edition of Hymns and Sacred Poems "Directly opposite to this is the gospel of Christ. Solitary religion is not to be found there. 'Holy solitaries' is a phrase no more consistent with the gospel than holy adulterers. The gospel of Christ knows of no religion but social; no holiness but social holiness. “Faith working by love” is the length and breadth and depth and height of Christian perfection. 'This commandment have we from Christ, that he who loveth God love his brother also;” and that we manifest our love “by doing good unto all men, especially to them that are of the household of faith.' "
God loves us first by sending his son, Jesus, to save us by believing Jesus is the son of the living God (John 3:16-21). We show our love by loving God and showing our love for others. (Matthew 22:36-40, John 13:34-35)
